I forgot to upload yesterday’s post, oops
Cu Chi Tunnels
Today, I went on a guided tour of the Cu Chi Tunnels for ₫420k (~$15). It felt rather rushed, but was a good tour for the price.
I grabbed a morning coffee at the start of the tour
Laquerware
We first went to a laquerware factory, and were shown the process of making laquerware. The shop at the end had it for ₫1.5 million (~$60), and a later gift shop for ₫500k (~$20). Since I knew there would be a better deal elsewhere, I opted to wait so I could bargain. I ultimately got 5 laquerware wall plaques for ₫600k (~$22), or ₫120k/$5 each.

The plaques I purchased

The Tunnels

This is a hole made for hiding from soldiers. There’s a small piece of wood with handles on it that’s covered in leaves, and you use it to cover yourself in. Except for the opening, the hole was pretty large and I was able to duck down inside!

Around the tunnels, there were many traps like these spikes. The floor would rotate as an enemy walked on it, causing the enemy to be impaled and hidden from his fellow soldiers.

To dig the holes, one person stood outside to bring dirt out and dump it into the Saigon river, while another (or many) dug inside the hole

Coffee & dinner

I’ve enjoyed the milk coffee so far, but today I tried the salt coffee since it’s also a specialty. The coffee was okay, but the cream at the top was too salty for my taste. Will probably be sticking to the milk phin coffee.

For dinner, I saw this air-fried chicken place and decided to have some, since I’ve been living off of Pho and Bahn Mi.
New hotel

Today, I moved into my new accomodation. I booked it in a new neighborhood in District 2, and got it since it was only $17! I’m only staying two nights and might try a hostel.

Nutritional Coke?
I found this weird coke light variant earlier, and thought the can looked like a beer. The only difference I could find is that it had 5g of fiber added. It was ₫3k more expensive so I didn’t grab it, but I will try it soon!
Spending data
I’ve spent kind of a lot on incidentals on this leg of the trip, and not too much on food.
